In 1979, Dan was the top alfalfa grower in the state. Dan
farms 700 acres and milks 210 cows. Dan raises all his own
replacements and has 240 head of young stock. He presently
processes feed through eight 2070 HARVESTORE structures
for haylage and high moisture shelled corn. See Dan’s 6219

JOE & GLADYS HABILE. CENTRE COUNTY
Joe was the 1979 Pennsylvania Master Farmer. The
Hartie’s 245-acre farm has a tie-stall barn and a herd of 66
cows. The 1979 herd average was 20,500 lbs. milk and 776
lbs. B.F. The milking cows are on a feeding program of
haylage, corn silagar 2nd baled hay. In 1979, the Hartie’s
spent less than $B,OOO for off-farm feed purchases.

The Holmans have a 60-cow herd on their 145-acre farm.
They have 50 head of young stock. The 1979 herd average
was 19,130 lbs. milk and 707 lbs. B.F. They spent less than
$9,000 for off-farm feed purchases. The feeding program
consists of haylage, corn silage & high moisture corn according
to production and 40% supplement.
