Former Hershey student’s dream coming true

At Hershey, one of
Ungemach’s favorite
buildings was the round barn
that housed the cows.
“I took a liking to milking
the cows right away and it
just increased my interest in
farming,” he said.
“I remember we’d each
hand milk one or two cows m
the morning and evening.”
That was the start of
Ungemach’s dream.
Through some three decades
he held on to it until it finally
started to be realized in 1968
with the purchase of a 119-
acre farm about a mile and a
half south of Campbelltown

has been fulfilled more than
he ever imagined during
those initial contacts with
agriculture as a Hershey
student.
Before owning their own
farm though, the
Ungemachs served a lengthy
farming apprenticeship.
Some 18 years were spent
working at Hershey
following student days,
including six years as
houseparents. Prior to
