There was the traditional odor of barbecued chicken floating over the South Mountain Fairgrounds along the Conewago Creek and the sticky-lipped smiles of the youngsters enjoying their eats. The ‘scrunch’ of apples could be heard throughout the Fairground, ac companied by the ‘glug’ of cider sold by the county fruitgrowers’ association. The South , Mountain Fairgound is the heart of the apple blossom festival. But the beauty of the occasion was to be found in the countryside along the Apple Blossom Trail. Thousands of cars and buses wound their ways slowly through the hills around Arendtsville, BiglerviUe, Idaville, Gard ners and all of the other towns whose names are synonymous with the apple industry in Pennsylvania. The several hundred guests who ventured indoors for an hour or so at the Fairgrounds auditorium were treated to the crowning of the new Adams County Apple Queen.
