from the herd of David
Steinhauer, Clayton. Both
animals had been purchased
by Maryland breeders at the
Delaware Holstein Sale.
The Holstein Sale is
always a big event in
Delaware dairy circles,
according to the specialist.
It’s a good opportunity to
promote and sell Delaware
dairy stock, 90 percent of
which are Holsteins.
A portion of the proceeds
go into the Delaware
Holstein Association
treasury, which supports 4-H
awards and other youth
activities and scholarships.
We’re looking for good
animals to sell at this year’s
sale, he says, which will be
held in Harrington on July 26
at the conclusion of the
Delaware State Fair.
Harrington was also the
scene of the Tri-County
Dairy Show, the first show of
the season. Held on a recent
Saturday, the show brought
together 27 exhibitors from
all- over the state, 65
animals, and an in
ternationally prominent
cattle judge from
Maryland, John Rinehart.
Sixteen-year-old Crystal
Gerardi, of Harrington, took
the Grand Championship in
both the Junior and Open
Divisions.
The next round of
eliminations on the way to
the All American finals will
be held at the county level.
There will be a show in Fair
