Bee swarm visits apiary course
By sheer happiness, Dewey M. Caron, extension agriculture specialist at the
University of Maryland, kneeling at left, had the opportunity to demonstrate
swarming during the fourteenth annual beekeeping short course on the College
Park campus. Note that one of the younger participants was wearing protective
clothing, but David deßuchananne, of Silver Spring, bravely took one of the
swarming bees in his bare hands. Nobody got stung. This year’s twenty-second
annual short course for beginning beekeepers was held at College Park last
weekend. An advanced course is scheduled June 13 and 14.
