JOSEPH, Mo. - Young Angus breeders across the country are gearing up for some of the keenest competition in the nation at the National Junior Angus Heifer Show slated for July 21-22 at Wichita, Kansas, reports Jerry Lipsey, director of Junior activities for the American Angus Association. Youths planning to exhibit heifers should take note of ownership deadlines, Lipsey added. Each entry must be recorded solely in the exhibitor’s name by May 1, except bred-and-owned heifers which must be registered no later than June 1. All transfers must be received by the Association by May 1, and the deadline for show entries is June 1. The heifers will be shown in two divisions. Bred and owned heifers will show first, and heifers owned by the exhibitor will follow. This year, the Kansas Junior Angus Association will sponsor cow-calf classes, a new addition to the show. Cows must be bred and owned, enrolled in the Angus Herd Improvement Records program, halter broken and exhibited with their most recent calf. Entries will be judged on quality of the pair and ac curacy and detail of per formance data on both. The cow-calf competition will be divided into four classes, first-calf heifers and mature cows, with spring and fall calves at side. The Kansas Junior Angus Association will provide $lOO, $5O, $4O, $3O and $2O premium money for five places in the cow-calf classes. Facilities for unhaltered stalling of the Ridge ficers presented their parents certificates of ap preciation. These officers were: Jesse Reichard, president; Douglas Fahrney, vice president; Steve Knepper, secretary; Kenneth Reed, treasurer; Travis Cauffman, sentinel; Dwight Stull, reporter; Alice Woodring, historian; and Robert Shank, chaplain. The 1980-81 chapter of ficers installed during the banquet were: Steve Mong, president; Randy Monn, vice-president; Jo Ellen Shockey, secretary; Travis Cauffman, treasurer; Charles Mellott, sentinel; Robert Burns, reporter; Brenda Hennings, historian; and Evelyn Smith, chaplain. Exhibitors must be junior or life members trf the American Angus Association and at least 9 years old but not more than 21 years old by January 1,1980. Along with the 'heifer show, the national showmanship competition will be featured and the National Junior Angus Association will be organized at a meeting of state delegates.
