Blue Ridge FFAers honor outstanding members BY RUTH ANN BENEDICT Staff Correspondent WAYNESBORO - Out standing. FFA members were recognized at the Annual Blue Ridge FFA Banquet held at the Waynesboro Area Senior High School last Tuesday. Jeffrey Kerr, State FFA Sentinel, in a brief speech urged the some 200 mem bers, parents, advisors, and special guests in attendance not to “shake the ladder of success.” “The ladder of success is the bard work in achieving that goal. Also addressing the group briefly was David Harman, Maryland FFA Association and Curtis Meyers, County FFA President. Gerald J. Reichard, a senior at Waynesboro Area High School, was presented the DeKalb Award. The DeKalb Award is the highest degree of proficiency in production agriculture presented to a senior who excells in scholarship, leadership and the super vised agricultural program. According to FFA ad visors Paul G. Benchoff and Glenn M. Herrold this year’s selection of the award was very close as the Blue Ridge Chapter had many out standing seniors. 1980 Keystone Farmer Degree recipients were recognized as Jesse Reichard, Gerald J. Jesse Reichard was recognized as being named South Central Regional Star Farmers and he also received the York Production Credit Award for the best record keeping in Franklin County. Robert Shank was named Star Agribusinessman while Star Chapter Farmer honors went to Dwight Stull and Star Greenhand honors went to Jeffrey D. Benedict. The Waynesboro Area Young Farmers Association Award was presented to Charles Mellott. ' Chapter Honorary Degrees were presented to George Gottshall, Waynesboro Senior High athletic director and Frank Beckner representing B - Equip, of Five Forks. These men were recognized for their outstanding assistance to the chapter.
