STOLTZFUS Abe Diffenbach Auctioneer NEXT SALE DATE - MAY 16 Livestock morket and auction news Report supplied by USDA Midweek prices on slaughter steers were 25-50 cents higher and heifers mostly 50 cents higher. Cows were 1.00-2.00 lower and bulls mostly steady. Four day receipts 12,300, last week 11,700, a year ago 13,400. Trading on fed steers and heifers followed a rather stable course and for the third consecutive week, closing prices were higher than at the close of the previous period. Marketings were little changed from the previous week, and were well distributed over the trading period. One buyer was still out of operation, but there was a rather good demand for cattle to be slaughtered at points outside the immediate Omaha area. Yield Grade was often a greater price-determining factor than quality grade. Reflection of the narrow differential between Choice and Good carcasses. The overall finish of the steer and heifer supply was fairly attractive. A rather liberal percentage Choice and several loads Choice and Prime. Slaughter steers made up approximately 42 pet and heifers 32 pet. Cows comprised 12 pet. and feeders 12 pet. STEERS: Load Choice and Prime predominately 3 1314 lbs. 65.50.
