C32—Lancaster Fanwfrig, Saturday, April 26,1980 York 4-H first at Livestock Judging Contest UNIVERSITY PARK - York County 4-H livestock judging team was the high scoring team at this year’s Penn State Livestock Judging Contest. The contest, held April 12 at the University’s Beef and Sheep Center, was sponsored by the Block and Bridle Club. Forty-five teams and over 200 contestants competed in the judging which was divided into two categories: juniors, which combined 4-H and FFA teams; and collegiate. In the junior division, the teams were classified as beginners or advanced. The beginner teams were not required to give oral reasons for their placings, whereas the advanced teams had to give oral reasons. In the junior beginner category, Tom Herr, of Solanco FFA, was the high individual in cattle judging. Herr was the third high individual over-all. Chad Cash, a Centre County 4-ITer, was the high scoring junior beginner in the contest. He was also the high individual in judging sheep. Robin Bekassy, of Shawnee Lakers 4-H, Bedford County was the top individual for placing swine. Barbara Herr, of the Eastern Lancaster FFA, swept the advanced junior competition, winning three of the five individual awards. She was the high scoring individual over-all, and was first in judging sheep and in presenting oral reasons. Diane Krause, Lehigh County 4-H, followed Bar bara in individual placings. She was the second high individual in the advanced junior division, and was the top scoring contestant in judging cattle. The Lehigh County 4-H team was the high scoring team in the advanced junior com petition. First place in judging swine in the advanced junior division was Missy Mcllwam, Armstrong County. In the collegiate com petition, Linda Ebaugh, from York County, achieved the recognition of high scoring individual m the advanced division. She was first in presenting oral reasons for her placing classes of cattle, sheep, and swine. Ken Brubaker, from Lancaster County, was the first place winner m the cattle judging class. Mark Wagman, a student from West Virginia captured the first place honors m both the sheep and swine classes. In the amateur collegiate division, Bernice White, from Delaware County, came in first.
