holds polo clinic, horse show
techniques, such as the
proper way to hold and
swing the mallet, rules of the
game, various maneuvers to
help the horse and rider, and
how to teach a horse to stop
and turn quickly.
The members were told
that polo is a game for all
ages, that usually a playing
field is around 100 by 300
feet, that the 7-minute
penods are called chukkers,
and that a game has six
chukkers. The 4-H’ers

picked up teams and played
several spirited matches.
The club would like to start
their own polo team and
future clinics are planned.
The clinics are open to the
public and any interested
person who would like to join
in the fun is invited. Sessions
are held at the Fellenbaum
Farm on Fruitville Pile. For

The 4-H Club finalized
plans for their Open Horse
Show at their last meeting on
Friday, April 11. The show is
being held today at the

Award at the April meeting.

three age groups and will
accumulate points during

County extension staff

Richards has been appointed
as an assistant Extension
agent and assigned to
Delaware County.
Thomas B. King, Penn
State, points out that
Richards is conducting
educational 4-H youth
programs. His position is
partially funded by an ap
propriation from the
Delaware County Board of
Commissioners.
A native of Wilmington,
Delaware, he received a
bachelor of science degree in
agriculture from the
University of Delaware in
1978 He is completing
requirements for a master of
science degree at Penn

for the April meeting was a
movie on Hunter Seat

Sue McCoy, a local horse
show judge, talked about the

on May 9, at 7:30 p.m. at the
