DB—Lancaster Farming, Saturday, April 12,1980 Berks Farmers (Continued from Page D 6) Manbeck said that marketing, the Farm Labor Act, and balancing the federal budget were discussed and both parties agreed on then: support but Yatron disagreed with the farm representatives on national health insurance opposed by the county organization. Also discussed was truck deregulation. Art Hershey and David Seiple, members of the PACMA Board of Directors, discussed a new program being offered by the cooperative. Seiple, the representative for Penn sylvania vegetable growers, presented the county association members with the new logo of the V •I* -*si; Among those honored were, >m left, David Sei , mei bou directors; Harry Shaak, retiring membership chairman; and Jack Kooker, President of the Berks Farmers' Association cooperative and explained a fund drive where PACMA is planning to raise $300,000 through the sale of preferred stock at $lOO per share. To be eligible to buy the preferred stock, members must first own a share of common stock at a cost of $25 per share, Seiple ex plained. The funds raised by the sale of preferred stock, which yield eight percent interest annually, will be used as an interim payment between farmer customers when livestock or produce is bought and sold through the PACMA program. Seiple noted that PACMA had a gross sales of over $9 million last year. The cooperative presently is s expanding to establish receiving stations for market hogs. These facilities can also be employed for cull cows, feeder pigs, sheep and other livestock, Seiple ex plained. “You may not need us now to market your products,” the board member said in urging the farmers to sup port the program, “but you may need us in the future.” In related business the Berks County Farmers’ Association formed a committee, chaired by Lloyd Dreibelbis, to help sell the shares of preferred' stock being offered. Purchases must be members of Penn sylvania Farmers’ Association to be eligible. It was also noted that holders of common stock who do not participate in the PACMA prgoram within 18 months may redeem the common stock for the purchase price of $25, and still keep their interest yielded preferred stock. Future plans listed by PACMA board members include the possible use of tele-auctions, exporting programs, and processing facilities. Presently, PACMA offers protection for farmers selling through the co operative by guaranteeing them their money. In terested farmers should contact any member of the Berks County Farmers’ Association board or the chairman of the PACMA committee for share ap plications. Members also were reminded that preferred stock can be purchased m the name of association members’ children and the interest rate paid on the shares is more than paid on passbook savings accounts. The stocks are redeemable at any time with the ap proval of the board of directors. NOFMANCE CHARGES until June 1,1980. Plus factory allowance savings if you buy NOW!
