Livestock market an
Omaha Cattle
Thursday, April 10
Report supplied by USDA
Despite a severe downturn
on Wednesday, midweek
prices on slaughter steers
ranged 1.00-2.00 higher as a
result of sharp price ad
vances . gained on meager
early marketings. Heifers
were 1.50-2.50 higher. Cows
were 2.00-3.00 higher and
bulls firm, instances 1.00
higher.
Four day receipts this
week: 10,100; last week:
9,400; year ago: 12,100
The fed cattle trade follow
ed an erratic course during
the week. Early supplies
were sharply reduced by
stiff seller resistance to four
weeks of declining prices
and the emergence of some
apparently bullish factors
over the weekend. Earlv, up
ward spiraling live prices
were at least partially sup
ported by a similar trend on
carcass beef. However,
much of the early upturn
was dissipated at midweek
on an expanded supply as
carcass trading again trend
ed lower. Demand was fur
ther decreased by the
absence of one major buying
interest because of labor
problems. The overall finish
of the steer and heifer supply
was rather attractive with a
fairly liberal percentage
choice steers and heifers in
cluded. Slaughter steers
made up approximately 46
pet. and heifers 32 pet. Cows
made up 14 pet. and feeders 4
pet.
