Beiics Group 5 held their
March meeting at the home
of Ella Bicksler, Bemville.
The program for the
evening was a package
party. The group also
wrapped candy favors for
the Hamburg State School.
Dates to remember are:
April 17, Beiics Heim Bingo;
April 19, County Hoe Down
at the Hamburg Field
House; Spring Rally, May 1
at the York Fairgrounds;
and a Ham-on-roll sale, April
26 orders may be placed
by calling Mary Troutman
or Sylvia Scharff.
The next meeting will be
held at the home of Grace
Carvell, Richland.
Dauphin Co.
Society 16
The March meeting of
Dauphin group 16 was held
at the home of Linda Brandt.
Jean McKain gave a
presentation on spring
bedding plants.
Work was begun on a
sunshine book for shut-ms.
At the next meeting the
group will be entertained by
Group 2.
Lancaster Co,
Society 3
Society 3 met recently at
the home of Barbara
Stauffer, Ephrata.
Members will sew at the
Ephrata Community
Hospital, Tuesday, April 8.
A contribution of $5O was
given to the Lancaster
County Easter Seal Fund.
The group will furnish
refreshments for the Alpha
Club, Friday, May 16.
Rose Anne Leininger
presented a program of
music.
The next meeting will be
held Saturday, April 12 at the
Salem Lutheran Church,
Ephrata. The group will host
the members of Society 25. A
luncheon will be served at
12:30 p.m.
Lancaster Co,
Society 15
Lancaster Society 15 met
recently at the home of
Charlotte Stoner, Kirkwood.
The group is invited to a
covered dish luncheon as
guests of group 20, April 3 at
12 noon at the Quarryville
Methodist Church,
Quarryville.
A donation of 1000 place
mats with the Farm Women
seal was received from the
group 's president
,i 5 memorial was ap
pioved in honor of Rachel
Hershey.
Reservations are being
taken for a night at “The
Three' Little Bakers” on
June 12.
The mother daughter
brunch will be held Satur
day, May 10 at Willow Valley
Restaurant.

Lancaster Society 18 met
recently at the home of Mae
Weaver.
Evelyn Brubaker
presented a talk on
Eighteenth Century Art,
showing some of her work.
Plans were made for a bus
trip to Williamsburg in May.

held at the home of Mildred
Kreider, April 19,1:30 p.m.

years. The money paid for the homes then goes into a
special fund which will help pay the cost of drilling a
well for the community. The people, in effect, are pay
ing themselves and will have a community fund.
Preston noted that homes currently under construc
tion are reinforced block houses with the foundation be
ing built two feet below the surface.
Preston said, “You always see pictures and hear
stories about places like this. But you don’t understand
it untd you have the opportunity to witness it fust hand
and to walk mto the houses and meet people. That br
ings it home.”
Sheryl added, “It seems unreal. Even there we were
not sure we were really experiencing it. We are not
quite as materialistic. It helped us realize we have so
much here.”
Would they like to go again? Without hesitation both
Sheryl and Preston agreed they would like to par
ticipate in another mission, although they realize ifa
cannot be done soon again. They do hope their ex
perience will serve as a stimulus to others who may
have an interest. And Sheryl’s incorporating her first
hand experiences into a previously scheduled study
unit in her classroom.
