Here are members appointed to Ag Preservation Board
LANCASTER - The
Lancaster County Com
missioners Wednesday
approved the appointments
of nine members to the
newly formed Agnultural
Preservation Board.
Board members serve
staggered terms to a
maximum of four years.
Two members each were
named to one, two, three,
and four year terms. The
ninth member is a County
Commissioner.
The APB’s makeup was
deliberately chosen to
represent a cross section of
interests in the land use
planning held.
Included are farmers,
financial community
representatives, professio
nal planners, and a
representative of the County
Developers’ Association/
Members are as follows:
Amos H. Funk, R 1
Millersville, is a well known
vegetable farmer in the
county. He will serve four
years.
He is a member of the
Lancaster County Con
servation District Board of
Directors. He recently was
appointed by the Governor to
serve on the state Con
servation Commission.
He was appointed in 1967 to
the State Agricultural
Preservation Committee.
Funk has been a driving
force behind the deed
restriction program
proposed for Lancaster
County.
Aaron Z. Stauffer, R 1
Ephrata, also has been
active in County farmland
preservation programs. He
will serve three years.
A township supervisor in
Ephrata Township, Stauffer
also serves as Chairman of
the Lancaster County
Conservation District Board
of Directors.
He is a member of the
Agricultural Advisory
Committee of the State
Department of En
vironmental Resources.
Larry H. Skromme, 2150
Landis Valley Road, Lan
caster, is a retired vice
president of engineering for
New Holland Machinery
Company. He will serve four
years.
He is a consultant on
agricultural mechanization
for the World Bank. He also
serves as a member of the
Farm and Home Foundation
board.
Skromme was appointed
to the State Agricultural
Preservation Committee at
the same time as Amos
Funk.
Levi J. Fisher, Church
Road, Bird-m-Hand, is an
Amish farmer who often has
been consulted on con
servation matters.
His term of office will be
for two years.
William H. Forrey, 2161
Brockton Road, Lancaster,
is the president of the
County
Lancaster
Developers’ Association He,
too, will serve two years
He is vice president of both
Sherman & Walton Builders
and of Redy, Sherman &
Walton Realtors
Forrey is vice president of
the County Home Builders
Association and serves as a
member of the Manheun
Township Planning Com
mission
He also is on the Lancaster
County Land Use Advisory
Committee
Charles S. Conrad, Jr.,
1939 Millersville Pike
Lancaster, is a registered
architect and a member of
the Pennsylvania State
Planning Board. He will
serve for thre years.
He was chairman of the
first Lancaster County
Planning Commission.
He serves as a member of
the County Land Use Ad
visory Committee and the
County Sewer and Water
Advisory Committee.
Paul B. Whipple, 2129
Stonecrest Drive, Lancaster,
is a farmer who also is active
in ag business. He was ap
pointed for one year.
He is with the finance
department of Pennfield
Corporation and is an ex
manager of the Farm Credit
office of the Federal Land
Bank and Production Credit
Association.
Phyllis WhiteseU, 1311
Clayton Road, Lancaster,
also was appointed for a one
year term. She is a former
president of the League of
Women Voters.
The sole woman on the
board, she also is a Land Use
Advisory Committee
director.
James E. Huber, Chair
man of the Board of County
Commissioners, rounds out
the members of the
Agriculture Preserve Board.
He is a member of the
Lancaster County Con
servation District Board of
Directors, a former chair
man of the Manor Township
Board of Supervisors, a
former member of the
County Planning Com
mission, and a former
member of the County Sewer
and Water Advisory Com
mittee.
The terms of the several
fanners, finance men, non
farmers and other specialty
areas deliberately were
staggered so the commission
would not have all of the
members of a single interest
group leaving the Board at
onetime.
The group’s first meeting
is slated for this Wednesday,
April 9, on the fifth floor of
the County Courthouse in
Lancaster. It will begin at
10:30, following the County
Commissioners regular
meeting.
