Fredericksburg.
Living on her parents’
dairy farm has given
Deaven the first-hand ex
perience and opportunity to
start her own dairy herd.
Unlike her parents who milk
45 Holstein cows, Northern
Lebanon’s star farmer owns
16 Jerseys, eight of which
are in the milking herd.
Deaven fell into the Jersey
breed through her FFA
affiliation. She received the
ALFALFASEED
Farmer
FFA chain calf when she
was a freshman, and that
calf happened to be a Jersey.
This past January, Deaven
was awarded her Keystone
Farmer Degree. Other
honors she has achieved
include her first place finish
in the Soil Conservation
Sneaking Contest.
Although FFA takes up
most of her tune, Deaven
says she enjoys showing
dairy cattle. She exhibited
her Jersey cattle at this
year’s Farm Show where she
had the Reserve Champion
