Cindy has her drivers
license. The first evening
when she asked for the car to
go to band practice, her
father said, “This must
surely be some kind of
milestone.” Here was our
youngest of six children
taking the family car and
leaving her parents alone in
a quiet house.
We have been very lucky
in that all of our children
have been careful drivers
(as far as we know) because
they realized the importance
of safety and the con
sequences of an accident.
When Cindy went to take her
test, we heard a man tell a
story of reckless driving, in
front of his son, and loud
enough for the sinall roomful
of people to hear.
He said that he got
arrested for driving 90 miles
an hour on his way home
from taking his test many
years ago. And, he went on to
say that after having several
accidents connected with
fast driving his father finally
earned out his threat and
sold his car. Was that a good
example for his son?

Getting my own license
was a traumatic experience
for me as my instructor was
an impatient father. I
suppose I was a slow learner
in the 1931 blue Chevrolet but
he made me so nervous that
thinking straight was im
possible. How much better it
is to have a trained Driver
Education teacher as an
instructor.
When I failed my test the
first time, my parents were
so very ashamed of me that I
was quite miserable for
days.
This is a busy time for me
as the 4-H Club should be
organized, the garden
planted and on top of all of
that my mother is moving to
a retirement community. So
her large house will have to
be emptied. And, all of her
life she was a saver of
everything possible.
So weeks and weeks of
hard work are ahead of me. I
should be very grateful that
Cindy has gotten her license
at this tune and can help
with the driving.
