Thursday, March 27
Report supplied by USDA
Midweek prices on
slaughter steers were mostly
1.50 lower and heifers were
1.25-1.50 lower. Cows closed
1.50-2.50 lower and bulls
were 1.00 lower.
Four Day Receipts This
Week: 10,000; Last Week:
9,600; Year Ago: 12,600.
The fed cattle trade
followed much the same
pattern as the previous
week. General trading was
again bearish despite the
need of packers for cattle as
movement of carcass beef
continued on the dull side.
Most buying interests were
selective and competed for
only minimum numbers; the
daily rate of slaughter was
still of modest proportions.
Feeder buyers were for the
most part not competitive
for two-way steers as futures
prices also broke sharply.
The small supply included a
fair percentage choice steers
and heifers although many
still earned some mud.
Steers made up ap
prozunately 46 pet. and
heifers 30 pet. Cows com
pneed 11 pet. and feeders 10
pet.
