C26—Lancaster Farming, Saturday, March 29,1980 Hunterdon bake FLEMINGTON, N.J. - Mouth-watering cheese cake, freshly baked breads and savory mam-dish pies were among the entries at the sixth annual Hunterdon County Extension Bake-off last Saturday. The Bake-Off, co sponsored by the 4-H Foods Council and the Home Economics Council, enjoyed the biggest response in it’s six-year history, -with 90 participants and over 175 entries. No-Knead Yeast Breads were the specalty class this year. The winners were: Joan Massaro, Ist; Beth Olson, 2nd and Pat Plum stead, 3rd. Also known as “batter breads”, these breads offer a quick alternative to regular yeast bread baking. The crusts are somewhat thicker and crustier than a kneaded yeast bread, and the gram is coarse and uneven. However, flavor is excellent, and they generally take much less tune to prepare. Seventeen other classes of baked goods were open to State extension 4-H and youth workers elect officers - »,„', -..,. ;fr /y- •* t* X Officers of the Pennsylvania Association of Extension 4-H and Youth Workers elected recently at the organization’s annual meeting on the Penn State campus are, seated from left; Mae Bleiler, Berks County extension agent, president; and Janis Sokoloski, Lackawanna County extension agent, vice-president.
