    Al4—Lancaster Farming, Saturday, March 22,1980
Now Is The Time
(Continued from Page A 10)
however, this does not mean
that I’m not interested in
politics and m those who are
politicians. Since our farm
population in this country is
only about three percent of
the total, farmers must
stand up for their opinions
more than ever before. In
recent contacts with some of
our political figures, I sin
cerely feel the great
majority of them are
sympathetic to farmer
problems; that is, if they are
fully informed of the
situation and actually know
how farmers feel. I hope that
farm folks will make a
special effort to keep in
touch with local and state
government officials in this
respect. Unless they know
how farmers feel, how can
they function to support
farm interests. Keep the
“pipe-line” open between
your legislators, govern
ment officials, and yourself.
TO BE ALERT
FOR TERMITES
As spring weather arrives,
the insects begin their ac
tivities. The termite is the
wood-hungry insect that is
very hard on wooden
buildings. The first sign of
this insect may be found in
sunny windows, or other
sunny places, this tune of the
year. Buildings owners
should keep in mind the
termite closely resembles
the flying ant at the above
places, However, the termite
has one elongated body with
four large wings. The ant has
a jointed body with two large
and two small wings. Folks
finding the termites swar
ming in the above warm
places should get on the job
and try to locate their nest.
Commercial exterminating
concerns may be needed to
get the job done. The im
portant things is to leam
whether or not termites are
present; if so, then
corrective practices should
be taken at once.
