Report supplied by USDA
Compared high time
previous midweek,
slaughter Steers and Heifers
were 75-1.25 lower, instances
1.50 off. Cows were 2.00-3.50
lower and bulls weak to 1.00
lower. Fleshy two-way
steers sold 50-1.00 lower.
Four day receipts this
week: 11,700; Last Week;
12,600; Year Ago: 12,500.
The fed cattle trade was
characterized by a general
air of bearishness as trading
on carcass beef continued
dull and movement of the
finished product slow. The
declines in live prices were
enforced even in the face of
modest marketings and a
relatively light daily rate of
slaughter. Most interests
were competitive only for
minimum numbers for
immediate requirements.
The overall finish of the
steer and heifer supply was
not particularly attractive
with a large share good to
average - Choice; mud was
still a prevalent condition
which made dressing per
centages uncertain.
Slaughter steers made up
approximately 40 pet and
heifers 40 pet cows com
prised 11 pet and feeders 7
