Berks Equine Council elects
LEES PORT At a recent
meeting, the Berks County
Equine Council, under the
direction of Clyde A. B.
Myers, County Agent, took
one more step towards its
formation by electing a
Board of Directors.
Those elected to the five
Berks Farmers’ Association
passes membership goal
BLANDON - Jack
Kooker, president of Berks
County Farmers’
Association, announced
recently that the county
membership goal has been
surpassed, reaching a new
record family membership
of 1135. The previous record
of 1073 memberships was 62
members less then the new
level.
Kooker said the Berks
County Farmers’
Association is a general
farm organization affiliated
with the Pennsylvania
Farmers Association. One of
it’s many functions is lob
bying for legislation in the
intersts of the rural com
munity, Kooker said.
A victory party is being
planned to honor the co
chairmen of the membership
drive, Harry Shaak,
Hamburg, and Jeff Miller,
Kutztown, and all mem
bership workers.
Also to be recognized are
the many farm families
hosting the approximately
9500 visitors turning out for

The meeting will be held at
the Union Grove School on
Wednesday evening,
February 20 at 7:30 p.m.
The law requires persons
certified to use the restricted
use pesticides be updated
every two years.

since you became certified
to use restricted use

Meeting to be held on

The school is located two
miles north of Rt. 23 on Rt.
625.

One of the projects the
Council is undertaking is to
work with other equine
groups to host the 1980 Horse
Expo being held at the Penn
State University, Berks
Campus on Saturday, March
22,1980.
Proceeds of the Expo will
be donated to the Berks
County 4-H Center Equine
facilities.
Other projects include the
establishment of a County
Equine Phone Directory and
establishment of trails in the
Blue Marsh Dam area.
Membership is open to
individuals, clubs or
business with horse interest
who reside or conduct ac
tivities in Berks County.
Membership is $l.OO per
year and anyone wishing to
join can send their dues to
