Thursday, February 7
CATTLE: dosing prices
on slaughter steers and
heifers were LOO-1.25 higher,
some Holstein steers 50-1.00
higher. Cows were 50-1.00
lower, bulls steady to weak.
A moderate volume two-way
feeder steers sold 50-1.50
higher.
Four day receipts this
week 13,700; last week
15,100; year ago 12,900.
The fed cattle trade
followed a rather uneven
course during the week
under review. Prices were
forced downward on the
initial run of 7300 head, but
the early decline was more
than recovered as
marketings decreased,
partially in reflection of
storm cond'tions. Supplies
were slightly'reduced from
the previous week but were
rather poorly distributed
over the trading period.
Yield grade was still a major
price-determining factor;
there were many con
signments Mixed 3-4, but the
volume of predominantly 4
1250-1400 lbs. was not as
great as most recent weeks.
However, mud was a rather
prevalent condition and
dressing percentages were
quite variable. The run in
cluded a fairly liberal
percentage Choice steers
and heifers and a moderate
volume Choice and Prune.
Slaughter steers made up
approximately 39 pet. and
heifers 31 pet. Cows con
tributed 15 pet. and feeders
10 pet.
