Al2— Lancaster Farming, Saturday, January 26, 1960 Livestock Omaha Cattle Thursday, January 24 Weekly 51 - Cattle - Midweek prices on Slaughter Steers and Heifers were mostly 1.00 lower, instances 1.25 off on Steers. Cows were 50-1.00 higher and Bulls firm. Four day recipts this week 10,400, last week 13,800 a year ago 13,200. The fed cattle trade followed an irregular course characterized by wide day to-day price variations. Early trading was quite bearish and prices were forced sharply downward in reflection of a dull carcass trade. A part of the early decline was regained, however, in an aggressive midweek trade on curtailed supplies. Yield grade was again a dominant price determining factor, and even yield grade 3 800-900 lb. carcasses sold 2.00-3.00 per cwt below 600-800 lb. car casses. In addition, mud was a more prevalent condition as feedlot conditions deteriorated. Much of the steer supply was good to average-Choice, with Steers making up approximately 48 pet of the supply and Heifers 29 pet. Cows comprised 15 pet. and Feeders 5 pet. Looking for ways to cut on down on out-of-pocket feed costs without cutting down on milk production? Cutting production costs will backfire if you end up shortchanging your herd’s nutrition in the process. But you can cut those costs safely by feeding homegrown grains and grain silage fortified with tiie right Vigortone Dairy Pre-Mix. These potent pre-mixes contain the proper levels of vitamins, calcium, phosphorus, and other minerals needed to balance your farm’s feedstuffs. Vigortone Dairy Pre-Mixes can be mixed in or metered on any palatable grain or roughage. This lets you change ration content to fit the supplies you have on hand without risking herd performance. Better herd nutrition means a bigger milk check. Minimum out-of-pocket feed costs mean more in your pocket.
