Spencer is active in the American Dairy Science Association, International Association of Milk, and Food and Environmental Sanitarians. A native of Bradford County, he has been a member of the Penn State Extension staff since 1957. He received his bachelor of science and master of science degrees from Penn State. James Benfield, of RD2, Schwenksville, Montgomery County, received the 1979 Superior Supervisor Award from the Pennsylvania Vacuum or Augermatic USED SPREADERS Dairy Herd Improvement Association. The award, “for out standing service as a DHIA supervisor in the Com monwealth,” was presented along with $lOO and a plaque. Benfield, a supervisor for 23 years, currently super vises record programs for 30 herds: 22 regular DHI, six alternate AM-PM, and two owner sampler. In addition to his regular work, he assists in training new supervisors in Montgomery County. Benfield was cited for the neatness of his barn sheets and other dairy records. He received the Award of Merit from DHIA 21 times, every year that was possible since he started this work. He assists his members in taking forage samples, identification of animals. 1100 gal.
