Mail order FFA band presents 42nd concert
HARRISBURG In this
era of folk, rock and other
varieties of music, a “mail
order band” is expected to
steal the musical show this
week during the 64th Penn
sylvania Farm Show.
This year marked the 42nd
consecutive appearances of
the FFA Band at the
Tuesday evening show in the
large arena.
The FFA Band was for

Oley High School in Berks
County. Brunner continued
to direct the band for the
next ten years.
With his increased work
load as Head of the
Department of Agriculture
Education at the Penn
sylvania State University
and Director of the National
FFA Band, he turned his
duties as director of the
State FFA Band over to
James W. Dunlop, former

director of the famous Penn
State Blue Band in 1948.
Dunlop directed the FFA
Band for the next 27 years,
until his untimely death in
1975.
Ned Delhi, director of the
Penns State Blue Band,
became director in 1976.

This year’s band is
composed of 44 boys and 25
girls, representing 25
counties and 38 FFA
chapters in the com
monwealth.

band as “mail order” from
the manner in which it is
organized each year.
Each applicant lists
typical selections which they
have played in their
respective high school band.
Some of the selections are
“Festival Overture,”
“Russian Christmas
Mr. Paul Hoffman of Neffs, representing the
Montgomery County 4-H Roast Beef Supper,
purchased three steers belonging to county 4-
H’ers at the recent Eastern Pennsylvania 4-H Beef
Show & Sale in Allentown.
Handling the animals are (left to right): Jim Roth,
Collegeville; Angela Bernotas, Schwenksville and
Doug Rumberger of Collegeville. The Roast Beef
Supper will be held January 26 from 3-8 P.M. at
the North Mont. County Vo-Tech School near
Lansdale and is open to the Public. For more in
