NEWARK, Del. - Sixteen Delaware 4-H members have been named state winners m the 1979 national 4-H awards program, ac cording to James O. Baker, state 4-H leader. All but one of this year’s winners at tended the National 4-H Club Congress in Chicago, November 24-29. Each of these young people was selected on the basis of outstanding work on a specific 4-H club project. Topics covered include: horses, leadership, public speaking, electricity, safety, conservation, foods, dairy, citizenship, swine, food conservation and safety, clothing, veterinary sciences, fashion revue, food preservahon, and dog care. tv Connie Harrington, Felton, conducts a poll. A successful citizenship project won her trip to National 4-H Congress in Chicago. She was sponsored by The Coca-Cola Company. Brenda Hudson, Seaford, passes along some of sewing skills that went into successful clothing project which won her a place on Delaware's delegation to National 4-H Congress in Chicago. Her trip was sponsored by Coats & Clark, Inc. A successful 4-H electrical project of Darrell Lowman, Landenberg, won liim a slot with Delaware delegates to National 4-H Congress in Chicago. Lowman belongs to New Castle county's “Porter Gang" 4-H club. His trip was sponsored by Westinghouse Electric Corporation. The purpose of the projects is to develop leadership talents and to help participants work toward the broad objectives of character development and effective citizenship. Award winners must also demonstrate knowledge and skills in their specific project areas. During their week m Chicago, the Delaware 4- H’ers joined about 1800 other delegates from all parts of the country. They attended meetings, heard nationally known speakers and par ticipated in recreational activities. The awards and trips were provided by local and national sponsors.
