BY JANE BREESEE Chester Hale of Rome, R.D., Bradford County, retiring director of the Northeastern Breeders Association, reported the Association was enjoying its best financial year and that the sizeable improvements on buildings and grounds at NEBA headquarters were paid for from cash flow. Gram producers m the mid-Atlantic area will be given a report on cooperatively-owned east coast gram export facilities at the annual meeting of the Gram Marketing Division of Southern States Cooperative. The meeting will be held December 3 at the Sheraton Motor Inn m Fredericksburg, Va. James A. Layton, chief executive officer of Farmers Export Company, headquarted in Shawnee Mission, Kansas, will be the principal speaker. The grain marketing division of Southern States operates 10 gram receiving stations in Virginia, Maryland, Delaware and Kentucky and it handled a total of 21.7 million bushels, with a value of $76.4 million, during the fiscal year which ended June 30. Comparable figures for the prior year were 18.7 million bushels and $56.1 million. Earnings after taxes came to $644,200, up from $164,600 the year before. Paar said there were 22,134 cows bred first service in Bradford County, 55% through the technician service, an increase over last year. The mam speaker was Dr. George Henning, veterinarian, a graduate of Pennsylvania State University, with a masters degree in reproductive physiology from the University of Wisconsin. His thesis was that the farmer, veterinarian, and in semination technician should work closely together toward the goal of getting cows bred, the number one problem of every dairyman. The group selected William Brown, James Howard, and Jeff Hale for a two year term on the ad visory committee to NEBA, Frances Davis, voting delegate, John Howard to the Holstein committee, and Robert Davis to the Guern sey committee. Making presentation was Robert L. Gluckstern, chancellor of the College Park campus. Fry served as a national director of the Brown Swiss Cattle Breeders Association in 1962-68; he was a regent of the University of id from 1970 to 1975, and he served as national FFA secretary in 1944-45.
