Pa. Exhibitors are top in junior beef show
HARRISBURG - Penn
sylvania junior exhibitors
dominated the cham
pionships during the 1979
Junior Breeding Cattle Show
at the 23rd Keystone In
ternational Livestock Ex
position here at the State
Farm Show Complex.
The champion Polled
Hereford heifer and reserve
champion heifer titles were
by John P.
Hausner 'of Dover, York
County. The champion, “Pro
Victress,” was an early
summer yearling heifer.
Reserve honors went to
Hausner’s late junior
yearling heifer,
“Distinguete,”
The best female, bred and
owned by exhibitor was
“Bam Miss Spidel Rose,” a
late junior yearling heifer,
shown by Barbara Ann
Metch of Flemington, New
Jersey.
In the Charolais com
petition, “Diamond Gassy”
took senior champion and
grand champion female
honors. “Gassy,” a summer
yearling, was exhibited by
Georige H. Wilson, IV, of
Lebanon, Lebanon County.
Reserve grand champion
female was show by Gordon
R. Smith of Landenberg,
Chester County. Smith’s
entry, “Royal Duchess,”
was named the junior
champion female. Reserve
senior champion female was
“Midland Sally,” a summer
yearling owned by Steven C.
Martz of Miller sburg,
Dauphin County.
In the Hereford division,
James Eisenhour, Jr., of
Wellsville, York County,

melstown, exhibited the
grand champion Appaloosa
stallion during the halter
competition at Tuesday’s
Livestock Exposition. Band
Leader was also the top
three-year-old stallion.
The reserve champion
stallion was a two-year-old
colt, shown by Wayne and
Patricia Decker of
Huguenot, New York.
Band Leader, shown by D.F. Swartz of Hummelstown, was the grand
champion stallion at the Appaloosa Show held during the Keystone International
Livestock Exposition.
showed the champion heifer.
His entry was “Ms Li
North,” a spring yearling
heifer. Reserve champion
honors went to “Miss
Donald,” owned by Patty
Qualk of Coal Center,
Washington County. Her
entry was also a spring
yearling heifer.
Champion heifer in the
Angus judging went to
“Edlyns Evelyn Maries
8E57,” an April-June
yearling heifer owned by
Deborah M. Rishel of Mc-
Cordsville, Indiana.
Diane Krause of
Slatington, Lehigh County,
exhibited the reserve
champion Angus heifer. Her
entry, “Grand Erica,” was a
March junior yearling.
Another Pennsylvanian,
Monique R. Sweigard of
Halifax, Dauphin County,
showed the best female bred
and owned by exhibitor. Her
entry, “Princess, placed
first in the early junior
yearling heifer class.
Virginia exhibitors swept
the Shorthorn competition
with the champion heifer
title going to “Greenland
Bonnie Rose,” a senior
heifer shown by S. Ashby
McCarty of Deleplane,
Virginia. McCarty also
exhibited the best female of
the Shorthorn show. Rhonda
Kay Kibler of Woodstock,
Virginia, showed “K Rhonda
Kay,” a late spring yearling
female to the reserve
champion heifer spotlight
Judging the junior
breeding cattle show was
Herman Purdy of Alexan
dria, Huntingdon County.
Band Leader is top 4 ‘Apple ” stud
Gary Shotzberger, Elm,
showed his five-year-old
gelding, Doe Boys Asa
Spades, to a win in his class.
The team then went on to
secure the grand cham
pionship for geldings in the
Appaloosa show.
The reserve gelding, Duke
Doolin, was shown by
Beatrice Hayduk of fitters.
Duke also won his class for
two-year-old geldings.
A Maryland horse was the
grand champion mare of the
Two is better than one according to John
Hausner. His Polled Hereford heifers were tagged
for champion and reserve champion in the junior
show.
Lebanon County's George Wilson showed the
grand champion Charolais female in the Junior
Breeding Cattle Show.
Appaloosa show. Lins
Stardust, the top two-year
old filly, was exhibited by
Sylvia and Lewis Haines.
The reserve champion
mare was a Pennsylvania
horse shown by Ware
Marmelo of Bethlehem.
Story’s Showgirl was next in
Imp to Lins Stardust in their
two-year-old class.
