Catocin FFA Chapter to
attend national convention
CATOCTIN, Md. - The
Catoctin Chapter of the
Future Fanners of America
held its monthly meeting on
October 16 at Catoctin High
School in Lecture Hall “B”.
The secretary's and
treasurer's reports were
read and approved.
Susan Flanigan reported
on the Summit Lake
Leadership Conference held
October 5-7. Chapter officers
Barry Burch, Susan
Flanigan, Ross Smith and
Bessie Cisar attended with
FFA members from all
across the state of
Maryland.
Chapter advisor, Richard
Arrington, thanked the FFA
members for their
assistance during the
community show to help
make it a success. Anna
Rjamhaugh also thanked
those members who helped
with the chapter’s food booth
also during the show.
PFA officers get no say In policy

ficers of Pennsylvania
Farmers’ . Association’s
Camp Hill staff have no say
lit policy decisions of the
organization.
Last week Lancaster
Farming reported. the
Bradford-Sullivan Fanners’
Association is opposing
PFA’s current policy on the
Milk Producers Security
Fund.
PFA’s current policy calls
FFA member, Mike
Valentine, was the champion
in both the Dairy Class and
Fitting and Showing Class
during the Community
Show, hi the Beef Show,
Debbie Baust exhibited the
Grand Champion Steer and
Anna Stambaugh exhibited
the Reserve Champion
Steer. Becky Keilholtz was
the Fitting and Showing
Champion and Annette
Harbaugb won First Year
Fitting and Showing.
Many Catoctin FFA
members competed in the
Frederick Fair judging
contests held on September
21. In livestock judging,
team members were Susan
Brown, Bessie Cisar and
Kenny Favorite who placed
11th individual In poultry
judging, the team placed
eleventh with members Ross
Smith, Barry Burch, and
Susan Flanigan, who placed
for producers to pay the
fund’s cost; Bradford-
Sullivan wants handlers to
pay the entire bill
The influence of PFA’s
Dick Newpber will not play a
role in the organization’s
decisions on the milk
security fund issue as
reported, PFA says. As an
officer of the organization,
he has no say in the farmer
formulated policies of PFA.
Newpher’s only role will
11th individual. The dairy
judging team placed 12th
with Mike Hill placing 10th
individual and Mike
Valentine placing 12th in
dividual.

encourage more members to
participate in more FFA
activities.

by the chapter on September
20.

on the chapter’s float in the
Homecoming parade on
October 6. The theme was
“Preparing for Progress.”
Laura Levering reported
that members of toe chapter
traveled to the Damascus
Community Show on Sep
tember 27 to put on a cider
pressing demonstration.

National Livestock Show at
the State Fairgrounds. The
team placed tenth with Allen.

The chapter will sponsor a
school leadership conference
for all clubs ' and
organizations within the
school.
Representing the FFA at
the conference will be Karen
Kline, Lisa Stine, Susan Hill
and Mike Valentine.
The county land judging
contest was held October 26
and the county livestock
judging was held November
2.
