Livestock market an
Omaha
Cattle
Thursday October 11,1979
Closing prices on
slaughter steers were
1.25-1.50 lower and heifers
closed 75-1.00 lower. Cows
were 1.50-2.50 higher and
bulls firm, limited sales
fleshy two-way feeder steers
were steady to 50 lower.
Four day receipts 10,000;
last week 11,000; year ago
13,500.
The fed cattle trade follow
ed a highly erratic course
during the week,
characterized by wide day
to-day price variations. Most
interests came into the
period with limited live in
ventories on hand, but
despite modest supplies
prices on steers and heifers
bent sharply downward; the
early downturn was largely
recovered on Tuesday, but
additional declines were en
forced at midweek.
Marketings were still below
normal, partially m reflec
tion of Harvest operations
going ahead at full speed
under ideal weather condi
tions. However, the Thurs
day run was above normal
as a result of the T-bone
special from Audubon Coun
ty, lowa. The steer and
heifer supply was largely
high-good to average-choice.
Steers made up approx
imately 29 per cent and
heifers 23 per cent. Cows
comprised 9 per cent and
feeders 37 per cent.
