James Young wins Milking Shorthorn Show
HARRISBURG - James H.
Young, Newville, led Penn
sylvanians at the Milking
Shorthorn competition at the
All-American Dairy Show in
Harrisburg on Tuesday.
Young showed the junior
champion, Three Springs
G.K. Irma, a junior yearling
heifer, and the reserve
senior and reserve grand
champion, Elwood Promise
Lass 575, a four-year-old.
Young, who has been
showing at the All-Amencan
for many years, had the
grand champion of the
Milking Shorthorn show two
years ago.
Young also won the
coveted premier exhibitor
award with his strong
showing in other placmgs.
He showed the first place
produce of dam, and was
second in the get of sire, both
senior and junior, and in the
dam and daughter class.
Durell Hammond, left, Australian exchange
student, accepts the premier sire award from
Penn State Extension dairy specialist, Steven
Spencer. Hammond is living with the Sam Yoder
family, Shoemakersville, and was asked to accept

Farm won the premier
breeder award.
The Sandy River Show
string contributed to the
number one state herd, won
by Marne. Second in the
contest was New York.
' Premier Sire of the show
was New Park Gay King, a
bull from Australia. Durell
Hammond, an Australian
