ing unit to assure in-row
spacing accuracy and
reliability. The new system
utilizes the force of gravity
and air pressure,
eliminating mechanical
fingers, fluted seed cups and
high speed pneumatic hoses
or plates, as required by
other designs.
The planter allows seed to
fall naturally from hopper to
metering disc to discharge
chute. Seed can move into
the ground with a minimum
of bouncing, ricochet, and
other abuse which can cause
erratic spacing. Such gentle
handling assures that a max
imum number of seeds go in
to the ground in ready-to
germinate condition.
Air supply on six- and
eight-row versions is
developed by a simple, effi
cient, hydraulically driven
central blower (optional on
four-row). A pump/reser
voir on the Seed Boss easily
connects to the PTO. White

read and designed to cut
down time. The White Farm
SMI monitor is standard on
every “Seed Boss.” A light
flashes on the monitor, row
by row, as each seed passes
a photocell in the seed chute.
A hom and light activate im
mediately upon malfunction.
Operators need not worry
about hopper levels, because
the monitor will note
“failure to feed” instantly.
In White’s design, gauge
wheels carry the weight of
the planter plus some frame
weight, and they utilize this
weight to gauge and firm the
soil, remaining in contact
with the soil despite terrain
irregularity.
An advantage of White’s
compensating system is that
the linkage always divides
the downward firming
pressure into two equal
forces on each side of the
row. This is particularly im
portant in rough, minimum
tilled soils.
