Livestoc * Omaha Cattle August 23,1979 Through midweek, prices on slaughter steers were 1.50-2.00 higher. Heifers clos ed mostly .50 higher. Cows were .50-1.00 higher and bulls firm to 1.00 higher. Four day receipts 15,200 compared 9,200 last week and 13,500 a year ago. The upward spiral in fed cattle prices continued even in the face of expanded marketings, although the current advance was less spectacular than the previous week. The upturn in live trading was supported by sharply higher prices for carcass beef at the level. Demand was good by most buying in terest, and further stimulaton was added by commodity buyers seeking cattle suitable for futures deliveries. There was also good inquiry for cattle to be slaughtered at points outside the immediate Ohama area.
