Maple Lawn Farms host peachilicious festival

York County Pork Producers serve up steaming roast pork and ham sand
wiches with peach sauce to lines of people each year at the Peachilicious Labor
Day Weekend at Maple Lawn Farms, three miles north of Fawn Grove at Gat
chellville, Pa. This year’s event will be held September 1 to 3.
$lOOO prize offered to
winner of Stockman contest
TIMONIUM, Md - A
Junior Stockman contest is
planned for Friday, October
5 during the Eastern
National Livestock Show at
*he State Fairgrounds,
Timonium, Md The first
place individual will be
awarded a $l,OOO scholarship
with additional cash orizes
being awarded to the top ten
individuals and winning
teams
Competition is open to
teams of three members
from the same 4-H club or
FFA chapter Each group
may enter as many teams as
desired, however, each
member may only par
ticipate on one team Con
testants must have been 14
by January 1 of current year
and not older than 19
The selection of Junior
Stockman will be based on
nine classes They include
various types of livestock,
hay, wool, pork retail cuts,
and a written test con
cerning the total livestock
industry The top ten con
testants will have additional
competition in gram rations,
market overview, disease,
performance pedigrees,
anatomy, and identification
of breeds and equipment
The Junior Stockman of the
Kingman Reef
Kingman Reef is local* cl
about 1 000 miles South of
Hawaii and was discovoed

1798 However Captain W
E Kingman rediscovered
the 10 mile le>ng, 3 foot high
islet in 1853

Peachihoous Labor Day
Weekend to compliment the
1979 harvest season. The
festival will be held Sep
tember 1 to 3, three miles
north of Fawn Grove at
GatcheUvihe.
Gail McPherson, coor
dinator, describes the event
as an old time ice cream
social that’s taken on the
flavor of a country fair.
Visitors will be able to pick
peaches m the orchards.
Cookbooks, buttons, and T
shirts will be available in the
market. Local artisans will
display their peach oriented
wares in the craft barn.
The hours will be from
noon to 6 p.m. on Saturday
and Monday, 1 p.m to 6 p.m.
on Sunday.
