Lancaster Farming, Saturday, July 28,1979—35 NJ. state dairy judging held BURLINGTON, N. J. - The 1979 New Jersey State dairy judging contest was held on Wednesday, July 18, in Burlington County, New Jersey. Competition began with the Ayrshire breed at Mars Haven Farm, and continued throughout the day with Guernseys at Locust Hill Farm, Jerseys at Ogston Farm and Holsteins at Huff-n-Puff Farm. The high team in the contest was Sussex County with a total of 1737 points. Gloucester County 4-H’ers finished in the runner up spat with 1716 points; Mercer third with 1712 points; Warren fourth with 1702, fifth and sixth places were taken by Burlington and Hunterdon with 1691. This is the second year in a row that Sussex has taken first. This year’s team members are Joan Byma, Wendy Raab, Mary Ellen Sytsema and Suzy Voight. All four are members of the Wantage Hustlers dairy 4-H Club. Each excelled with Miss Voight taking high individual in the Ayrshire breed and tied for third with Eric Schwab of Hunterdon in the Guernsey breed; Miss Raab first in Guernseys and fifth in Jerseys; Miss Syt sema captured fourth high honors in Jerseys and Miss Byma finished fourth in Holstein breed. By virtue of the first place finish Miss Byma, Miss Sytsema, and Miss Voight along with Wayne Hancock from Burlington County, high individual of the con test, will be traveling to Madison, Wisconsin to compete in the National Dairy Judging Contest in October. Coaching Sussex County to it’s second con secutive top finish at the State level is William E. Terhune HI of Andover.
