Rohm and Haas Company
lasTmonth unveiled two new
soybean herbicides.
Blazer and Goal are two
new herbicides nearing
market introduction that
hold promise to solve some
pressing weed problems
facing soybean growers
throughout the country, the
manufacturer said.
According to Tom
Maclver, market manager
from Rohm and Haas,
Blazer is a post emergence
soybean herbicide which will
control tough problem weeds
SOYBEAN
like morningglory,
cocklebur, pigweed and
velvetleaf.
This season, Blazer is still
under an Experimental Use
Permit, however,
emergency exemptions have
been granted in Delaware,
Maryland, Virginia and
Louisiana to use the com
pound. Full registration is
expected in time for the 1980
use season.
The second compound is
Goal, a pre-emergence
broadleaf herbicide. Ac
cording to Maclver, Goal
will fit quite well in
specialized management
practices where consistent

broadleaf weed control is
necessary, but difficult to
obtain because of soil type
differences or other con
siderations. Key weeds
controlled by Goal include
smartweed, pigweed,
jimsonweed and lamb
squarters.
Goal activity is charac
terized by shoot uptake, and
at the currently used rates
controls weeds by contact
and residual activity.
Goal is unaffected by
differences in soil type or
organic matter content
which means that one rate
