Both slaughter steers and heifers registered a price upturn on Monday. But declines Tuesday offset all of the previous days advance. Tuesday’s lower trend was the result of a sharply curtailed buyer demand apparently due to tran sportation difficulties ex perienced by many slaughtering plants. Cows sold mostly 1.00 higher, while bulls were steady. The fed cattle trade again followed an uneven course as dictated by an uncertain transportation situation. Supplies were sharply curtailed all week, and some slaughterers were out of operation on Monday because of full coolers and insufficient trucks for moving carcass beef. Prices were forced downward in a bearish at mosphere Monday, but the early declines were mors than recovered later as transportation problems eased and carcass prices advanced. After Monday, all buying interests were again trade participants. Slaughter steers made up approximately 53 pet. and heifer 31 pet. Cows com prised 14 pet, feeders scarce.
