Milk funding program
survives Carter’s attack
WASHINGTON, D.C. -
■ The U.S. Senate has agreed
to keep the Supplemental
Milk Funding Program for
1980 at 1979 levels, despite
the Carter Administration’s
effort to trim it from $142
million to $32 million. The
program provides about 70
per cent of the milk con
sumed by school children.
' Numerous dairy
cooperatives and farm
organizations, including the
American Farm Bureau
Federation, had supported
efforts to keep the program
from being reduced.
One of the many
spokesmen in favor of
keeping the funding at
present levels was Edward
McNamara, president of
Northeast Dairy
Cooperative Federation
(NEBCO), based in
Syracuse, N.Y.

added that Bellmon’s in

not true.”
McNamara also claimed
that the cut in milk program
