Uvestoc a Omaha Cattle May 31,1979 CATTLE: Closing prices on slaughter steers 1.00 lower, instances 1.25 off. Heifers closed 1.00-1.50 lower, some instances 1.75- 2.00 off late. Cows were 1.00- 1.50 lower and bulls steady. Fleshy two-way feeder steers sold fully 1.00 lower. Three day receipts 12,600 compared 13,090 for four days last week and 15,080 a year ago. The fed cattle trade was generally bearish following the long Memorial Day weekend, and prices declined sharply in reflec tion of a downtrendmg trade. Trading was Visually a slow, deliberate affair as buyers sought to maintain an acceptable ratio between live prices and current carcass realizations. One major buying interest was still off the market for the , entire period. The downturn in live prices was often eased somewhat by increased waterfills resulting from warm, humid weather. The overall finish of the steer supply was fairly attractive with a fairly liberal percentage choice and several loads Choice and Prune. Much of the heifer supply was Good to Average- Choice. Slaughter steers made up approximately 47 pet and heifers 33 pet. Cows comprised 12 pet and feeders 7 pet. . STEERS: Early, five loads Choice and Prime 3-4 1013-1365 lbs. 73.75.
