Scholarships from the Lancaster Farm and Home Foundation were given to Pamela Wiest, Farm and Home scholarships (Continued from Page 1) she plans to study nutrition. She said, “I have always enjoyed home economics, and have taken it since the sixth grade. I like to make things. I think a lot of people are not getting proper nutrition.” Christine is president of the Future Homemakers of America and works in musicals and plays with costumes and make-up. She is also a member of the Red Cross Youth Council. “I was very excited about the scholar ship,” she said Thomas A. Wolf, 17, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. John R. Wolf, 5814 Geneva Drive, East Petersburg. Graduating from Hempfield High School, Tom will attend either The Pennsylvania State University or Indiana University of Pennsylvania and study hotel and restaurant management. Tom explained that his goal is to get a job in a management position and one day own his own establishment. He explained that the restaurant field is a growing one, and one which is interesting and makes people happy. Presently working part time at Haydn Zug’s, Tom said his mother was a home economics teacher and he gained his interest from her. He is a writer on the Flash, the school paper, and is a member of the Biology Club where he serves as chair man of the ecology plot committee. He is a member of Trinity United Church of Christ youth group. Winners in the field of agriculture: James D. Bowman, 18, son of Mr. and Mrs. James W. Bowman, Ranks R 2, will graduate from Pequea Valley High School and attend Pennsylvania State University to study dairy production. Bowman, whose father’s farm includes 47 Holsteins, said he hopes to be a, herd manager. He credits his ninth grade ag teacher with helping his Sandra Myer, Mark Myers, Thomas Wolff, Theresa Bufano, Darlene Groff, Kimberly Weaver. agricultural interests along. James was a member of FPA for two years, is a member of the National Honor Society, the cross country team, Varsity Club and chorus and chamber singers. He plays softball for St. John’s United Methodist Church, Paradise. He said he felt great about winning the scholarship, “It’s terrific.” Mark D. Myers, 18, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. A. Franklin Myers, Lancaster R 6, and will graduate from Penn Manor High School. Mark plans to study agricultural engineering at The Pennsylvania State University, saying “I like farm equipment and ag related fields. I think there’s a future in agriculture.” Mark lives on a 260 acre * farm, with 100 head of beef, as well as com, small grains and tobacco. He is a member of the Red Rose 4-H Beef and Sheep club, the Penn Manor band, the chess club and is an Eagle Scout. David M. Snavely, 18, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Snavely, 1434 Brunnerville Road, Lititz. He will graduate > from Warwick High School and attend the Mont Alto campus of The Pennsylvania State University, where he will take a two-year course in forest technology. “I think it will be an interesting career to pursue,” he said, adding that he hopes to work in logging operations. He lives on a small farm, and was an FFA member for four years, serving as reporter. He is an Eagle Scout and works after school. “I was surprised and glad about the scholarship,” he said. R. Lamar Witmer, Mount Joy R 3, graduated from Lancaster Mennonite High School m 1978. Lamar, 19, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Luke Witmer, will attend Eastern Mennonite College to study agricultural development. He said of his chosen career, “I never had much interest in anything but agriculture.
