Following dose behind was fellow Twin Vallian Tom Kearns. Third place was captured by Mark Wolfskin of Conrad Weiser with Chris Bear *of Kutztown fourth. Twin Valley’s Tim Stoltzfus finished fifth, with Roger Stoltzfus sixth and Barry' Johnson seventh. Daryl Kreitz of Conrad Weiser was eighth. The agronomy contest tests a student’s ability to use crop growing in formation. First students bad to identify 20 different Devine places third ELVERSON - Donna Devine, 16 year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Devine of Honey Brook R 2, placed third in the Berks - Lebanon - Schuylkill County FFA Interview contest held recently at Cedar Crest High School. Interview contestants were required to write a letter of application for a jobi of their choice. The letter* was judged for neatness, arrangement, grammer and content. An application for employment was then completed by each student. Finally each student was interviewed by Ed Adams, Employment service supervisor with the Penn sylvania Job Services in Lebanon. They then use the agronomy guide prepared by Penn .State crop experts to give herbidde recommendations for 20 weeds in specific crops and situations to give in secticide recommendations to control specific insects under given circumstances in field crops and finally to answer 20 questions on agronomic crops. The contestants completed a general knowledge test on fidd crops, and test forms for soil and forage test using specified information. All contestants judged three classes of hay for quality. Fords sweep 4WD class at Buck THE BUCK Ford 4-wheel drive vehicles took the lead last Saturday in the first regularly scheduled 4WD pulling contest of the season. The action, which draws spectators from all over Pennsylvania and surrounding areas, also featured super stock and modified tractors. Some of the engines churn up 1000 horsepower and more. This is the first year that 4-wheel drive vehicles are being featured regularly at the Buck Tractor Pulling Stadium, located 10 miles south of Lancaster along Route 272. The contest last week saw only Fords in the top three places.' Winning the 5000 pound dass was Ron Kauffman of Holtwood. He had a full pull (300 feet) on his first run, and managed a haul of 288 feet, 10 inches during the pull-off against runner-up Frank Rohrer of Quarryville who also had a full pull on his first try at the sled. Rohrer did not move the sled on his second attempt. Kauffman drove a 1975 Ford, while Rohrer commanded a 1970 model. Third in the class was James Wiley of Preston, Md., who drove his 1978 Ford for a distance of 277 feet, 4 inches. In the 6500 pound FWD class, Rohrer roared to the front with a 255-9 effort, after having had a full pull earlier. His pull-off partner in that contest was Jerry Graver of Paradise. Graver, who managed a 72-1 pull, drove a 1968 Ford. Miley was third with a distance of 192-1. In other action, the results were as follows: 12,000 pound open 1.
