Heath 111 of Berwyn Heights (right) accepts trophy hardware symbolic of service award presented annually by the Maryland Egg Council. Dr. Heath is an Extension poultry technology specialist and associate professor of poultry science at the University of Maryland in College Park. Making the award was his former department chairman, Dr. Clyne S. Shaffner of Laurel, professor emeritus of poultry science at the University of Maryland. All are Prince Georges County residents. The presentation was made May 4 during annual “May is Egg Month" banquet at Martin's West In Woodlawn (Baltimore County), Md. Myers, Anderson win Md. 4-H alumni awards A leading Maryland fanner and an outstanding educator have been chosen as the 4-H Alumni winners for 1979. Recipients of this annual award, sponsored by the Maryland 4-H Foundation, are C. Rodman Myers, Thurmont dairy farmer, and Dr. Gordon M. Anderson, Frederick, who serves as superintendent of Frederick County Public Schools. The awards were presented by Dr. Maurice J. Spencer, Maryland Cooperative Extension Service assistant director for 4-H programs at the annual State 4-H Cititzenship Tour at Westmister on May 5. Both men participated as members in the 4-H Club program and have continued Lancaster Farming, Saturday, May 19,1979—145 to contribute to the program as they have pursued their successful careers. Myers is currently Master of the Maryland State Grange, vice president of the Thurmont Farmers’ Cooperative and is on the board of directors of the Farmers and Mechanics Bank of Thurmont. He is a member of the advisory board to the Office of the Vice President for Agricultural Affairs and Legislative Relations of the University of Maryland; a member of the Maryland Agriculture Commission, and on the board of directors of the Maryland State Fair and Agricultural Society. Myers earned the Maryland Granger of the Year Award in 1970, the Catoctin Sertoma Club “Service to Mankind” award in 1977, and the Maryland Master - Farmer’s Award, presented by Pennsylvania Farmer magazine, in 1979. Dr. Anderson began a career that is dedicated to working with youth as an Illinois 4-H member. Before undertaking his job with the Frederick county school program in 1976, he served in a similar capacity with the Catskill Public Schools and Yorktown Central Schools in New York. Anderson was president of the Regional Chief Public School Officers Association in New York, and is a member of the American Association of School Administrators and the Public School Superintendents Association of Maryland Anderson’s belief in community involvement and support for schools is reflected in his policies that allow 4-H Clubs and the Frederick County 4-H program to utilize school facilities.
