accounted for over 60 per
cent of the U.S. agricultural
exports.
A year earlier, the top 10
states also accounted for 60
per cent (or $14.3 billion) of
the $24.0 billion farm export
total for fiscal 1977.
The report, issued by
USDA’s Economics,
Statistics and Cooperatives
Service, shows some
changes among the listing of
states. While Illinois and
lowa still hold their No. 1 and
No. 2 rankings, the rest of
the list has changed. Texas,

modities accounted for 71

soybeans ($6.4 billion), feed
grains ($5.98 billion), wheat
($4.1 billion), cotton ($1.7
billion), and tobacco ($l.l
billion). A year ago, the top
five export commodities
accounted for 64 per cent of
the total and included feed
grains ($5.34 billion),
soybeans ($4.3 billion),
wheat ($3.0 'billion), cotton
($1.54 billion) and tobacco
($l.l billion).

Exchangee, Christine Erb,
daughter of Wilbur and
Amelia Erb, Mount Joy Rl,
Pa.
Chris was recently
selected as one of two
delegates to represent
Pennsylvania. She is
scheduled for a June 17
departure for Seattle,
Washington. After a brief
orientation, Chris will
continue on to Japan. Her
stay in the Orient will be six
months. As an IFYE, Chris
will live in the homes of
Japanese families. Upon her
return Chris will be
available to present
programs of her experience.
Chris is currently em
ployed on her father’s farm,
working in the 50,000 layer
poultry house. She was a
nine year 4-H member,
having been actively in
volved in the Elizabethtown-
Donegal Community Club,
Red Rose Baby Beef and
Lamb Club, Mount Joy
Sewing and Cake Decorating
Clubs and was co-president
of the County Council. Chris
was a member of the 4-H
Consumerama Judging
Team and served as an
advisor to 1974 4-H
Leadership School held at
Penn State.
The purpose of the IF YE
program is to promote better
understanding between
people while learning
another way of life. Each
participating county
provides $l5OO of the $3950
two-way exchange. The
Lancaster County IF YE
Committee raises funds for
the IFYE program.
The 1977 delegate was
Nancy (Henkel) Meyers who
traveled to Belgium and in
1976 Raylene Harbold visited
Trinidad-Tobago.
