Omaha
Cattle
Thurs., April 12,1979
Closing prices on
slaughter steers and heifers
were 1.50-2.25 higher with
trading an aggressive affair
for numbers each day. Cows
were 1.00-1.50 higher, bulls
mostly steady. Fleshy two
way steers were 1.50-2.50
higher.
The upward spiral in fed
cattle prices continued with
most buying interests
aggressive for numbers to
meet immediate
requirements for a short
week as many-slaughterers
will observe a non-slaughter
holiday on Good Friday. One
major buying interest
returned to operation after a
month’s absence because of
labor difficulties. The ad
vance in live prices was
partially supported by
higher carcass prices, but
cut-out ratios were still not
considered favorable.
Feeder buyers were still
competitive for steers
suitable for a short turn in
the feedlot. Steers made up
approximately 40 pet.,
heifers 37 pet., cows 9 pet.,
and feeders 11 pet.
