R 6; and Dean R. Heim, 44*
Pitman, have been ap
pointed administrative of
ficers of the Region 4 and
Region 7 Office of the
Pennsylvania Department of
Agriculture, respectively.
The appointment was made
by State Agriculture
Secretary Penrose
Hallowell. They assumed
their new duties with the
Department on March 28.
Hallowell said he was
pleased that the men had
accepted the appointment.
He cited their varied
agricultural and public
service background as a
positive factor in his
selection to fill the position.
The men will be respon
sible for the day to day
operations of their offices
and will supervise the field
staff who operate out of the
office.
Kennedy was raised on a
farm, and worked in a
partnership with his father
on the family dairy farm. He
bought the farm partnership
in 1949 and has since con
tinued as a dairyman with
registered Brown Swiss
cattle.
He was elected to the State
House of Representatives in
1962 and served in the
General Assembly for
twelve years. During his
tenure m the House, he
served as both Minority and
Majority Chairman of the
House Agriculture Com
mittee. He .was the prime
sponsor of the “Clean and
Green Act of 1973,” which
provides for property tax
assessments based on use
value for farmland and
forestland.
Kennedy is Vice-President
and Director of the All-
American Dairy Show and
Chairman of the
Agricultural Committee for
the State Grange. He has
been active in Extension,
serving as President, Vice-
President and Treasurer of
the County Extension
Committee. He has been a
director of the Purebred
Dairy Cattle Association,
and the Western Penn
sylvania Atlantic Breeders
Cooperative. He served as
an elder and head of the
Stewardship Committee at
his church in Mars.
Heim graduated from
Begins Township (now Tri-
Valley) High School in 1952.
Heim is the owner and
operator of the Ch-La-Dean
Farms in Hitman. His
business consists of raising
beef, vegetables and fruit,
which he delivers weekly to
approximately 400 retail and
wholesale customers. He has
been self-employed for 22
years.
He is a member of the
Pennsylvania Farmers
Association, the F & M
Valley Lodge 797, a,member
of the Shenandoah Amvets
and is a director fo teh
Mahatango Ambulance
Association and the
Mahatango Fire Company.
