slaughter steers, 24 per cent
cows, six per cent slaughter
heifers, and five per cent
bulls, with the balance being
feeder steers held mainly for
the Friday afternoon auc
tion.
According toa report from
the USDA, cattle members
this year will be down one or
two per Cent from last year,
with production down four
per cent as the cattlemen
begin to rebuild their herds.
•Cattlemen stress that the
high prices now are just part
of the cattle cycle that peaks
about every six to ten years.
The current good markets
will encourage the ranchers
to build up their herds, and
industry spokesmen say that
this supply expansion -will
bring the prices and supplies
in balance naturally.
