Animal nutrition is topic
of special forums
LANCASTER Some several dozen people who are
interested in animal nutrition put their heads together
once a month in order to discuss latest developments,
mutual concerns, and specific problems. In addition, it is
a time for sharing a meal and fellowship. Although the
group has no specific name, their informal monthly
meetings are dubbed as Veterinary Nutrition Forums.
With veterinarians, laboratory technicians, feed for
mulators, nutritionists, and others from related fields
included on the membership roster, the group is able to
discuss specific issues with the benefit of a variety of
viewpoints. New members are invited. Subject matter is
inclusive of all animal nutrition. The geographic mem
bership area is southeastern and southcentral Penn
sylvania. Anyone with a genuine interest in animal
nutrition may get on the mailing list. Once a member’s
name has been placed on the list be will receive notices of
meetings. The cost for membership is $2.00 to cover the
costs of postage. The individual’s expenses at meetings
must be borne by the attendee himself, which is generally
nothing more than the cost of the meal and his own
transportation.
Advance registration is mandatory before members
can expect to attend a Veterinary Nutrition Forum.
Meetings are generally held in the Hershey, Lancaster,
Ephrata area and feature a guest speaker. For the up
coming meeting, which will be held on Feb. 21, Dr. Leon
W. Davis, director of nutrition research for Trans Agra,
Memphis, Tenn., will be speaking on the use of lacto
bacillus fermentation products for livestock feeding and
management.
The group met last on Jan. 19 at Groff’s Farm
Restaurant near Mount Joy. Aside from usual business, it
was also the occasion for the installation of new officers.
