    54—Lancaster Fsrmini
There has to be one m every group You know,
the guy (or gal) that manages to make a fool of
himself by being the biggest klutz of all time I
guess it was just inevitable that my turn would
come up soone r or later.
It all started a couple of Saturdays ago, one that
dawned bright and beautiful.
Six if us decided to take advantage of the day
and go “river hopping”
River hopping is that unique art of exploring a
small river or a large creek by simply hopping from
rock to rock down the river.
Most girls prefer to river hop along the edge of
the river, and my two girlfriends were more of that
demure type, but the guys, true to form, rambled
right out in the middle of the river, and struggled
from rock to rock.
Now, as some of you may know, I have always
been a tomboy, and much to my mother’s chagrin,
will probably always be so So when it came to a
choice of staying with the girls where I probably
belonged, or ranging out there in the thick of the
slippery rocks and cold water, well, I just couldn’t
help myself
I went with the guys.
Everything was fine for awhile, I was quite proud
of myself I kept up with those self-styled explorers
and vaulted from boulder to ledge with the best of
them Yessiree, I was showing those guys a thing
or two.
Then 1 got sidetracked, watching this little
whirlpool in a rock, and tracing the patterns that it
made. The rest of the crew, my boyfriend included,
ranged on, leaving me behind
About ten minutes later, I heard a shout, and
looking up, saw the guys waving for me to watch
my boyfriend try to bridge the river on an un
dersized tree branch. I couldn't see very well
where I was so I skittered to another rock.
Still not satisfied with my view, I stretched up on
my toes to see better what was happening
The rock 1 was standing on was covered with wet
moss I didn’t notice it at the time
The next thing I knew my feet flew up in the air
and I went sailing into the water-that icy, cold,
murky depth that instantly froze my blood
My friends all missed the action. They said one
minute I was standing there and the next I wasn’t
I wished I could have kept it that way, but it was
unbearably cold and I hurt
So I came shivering out of my Wmtery bath, to
stand chagrined and shaken before my un
believing peers
Yes, there is always one in every crowd Sorry,
gang
Next time I go river hopping it’s going to be in
the dead of Summer and I’ll be wearing my bathing
suit That will take care of that little problem
Meanwhile, anyhbody want to go ice skating with
me 7
