.6—Lancaster Farming, Saturday, January 20,1979 - f~. ■: H Agway opens new store SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Agway Inc., headquartered here, has made a commitment to the farm equipment com munity for Lehigh Valley and areas served by its John Deere dealership at Wescosville, Pa. The Board of Directors of Agway, Inc., voted for the financing of a new farm equipment facility at Chapman, just outside of Allentown, Pa. The Board approved a $375,000 facility with a total of 18,000 square feet con sisting of a service shop, parts room, offices and display floor. The building will be located on land now owned by Agway at Chap man Road and Ruppsville Road at Chapman. Plans are to have the building com pleted in time for a Spring grand opening. The con struction of the steel building is under the direction of Abram S. Horst, Inc., of New Holland, Pa. With approval of the new facility, the Board also approved the forming of a new corporation under the name of Chapman Equip ment Center, Inc., with common stock owned by Agway Inc., and preferred stock being made available to farmer customers. The area is being canvassed for sale of the preferred stock. In March of 1960, Lehigh Farm Bureau Cooperative near Allentown Assn, started to handle the John Deere line of equip ment as a sub dealer of I. G. Rosenberger. In 1962 John Deere and the Farm Bureau Cooperative at Chapman entered into their first contract. In 1965, with the merger of Farm Bureau into Agway Inc., the first con tract was signed with Agway Inc. A new contract has now been signed in the name of Chapman Equipment Center, Inc. State committee HARRISBURG - The President of the Penn sylvania Association of Conservation Districts recently concurred in the appointment of a State Reclamation Committee to advise the Soil Conservation Service on the new Rural Abandoned Mine Program. “The Committee will recommend to SCS which projects on a priority basis will receive Federal Funding this year,” says PACD President, William Lange, “it also will serve to open up channels of com munication among land owners, conservation district officials, and federal and state reclamation # Fg-OkJT ELfc The new Chapman Equipment Center, Inc. will employ approximately 20 people to serve the many customers of Agway. RAMP, a voluntary program, will help par ticipating landowners develop and apply plans for the reclamation, con servation, and development of eligible lands affected by past coal' mining.
