HI J*B Lancaster Farming, Saturday, January 20,1979 Nafziger looks forward to challenges in Nepal By JOAN LIES AU PHOENEXVILLE - Dale Nafziger, a 24 year old from Phoenixville R 3, started his journey January 9, to the third world country of Nepal. Sponsored by the Mennonite Central Committee, Dale will be working in the area of electrical engineering to help improve Nepal’s agricultural systems. Dale, the son of June and David Nafziger, will be working for the United Mission in Nepal, which is bordered between India and China. As an electrical engineer, the 1978 Penn State graduate will be involved with the design and in stallation of turbines. Dale explained that in Nepal, which is an agricultural country, water driven tur bines spin and drive the generators. These generators are then used in harvesting and- other agricultural purposes. The first four months will be spent learning Nepali, the country’s language. Dale said he “will be involved in the church, but no missionary work will be done” as he explained it was illegal to do missionary work in Nepal. Dale said he was “in terviewed at Penn State in January. Being brought up as a Mennonite, I’ve always heard about it.” Dale added that he applied for the position because he “would like the international ex perience” and wanted to see the world “from a wider perspective,” adding he would “like to help people who need help”.” Dale attended the Penn State Berks Campus in Reading for two years and the Penn State, University Park campusior two years. As a graduate, Dale said he has a general background in the work he will be doing. Dale was also very active in Chester County’s Tri- Community 4-H Club for ten years. Occupational Safety as i Health Act mandates, t’ Cooperative Extensiu Service is offering a series c. meetings on Tractor Cei tification for youth, ages 16 that will be employed 01. non-family farms. The sessions will star Tuesday, January 30, and b held for eight consecutive Tuesday nights, ending on Tuesday, March 20. To become certified, the youth must attend all sessions which will be held at the Cecil Vocational Technical Center from 7:00 p.m. to 9:45 p.m. This course will only be offered every other year so that the next one will be in 1981.
